Plies initially started his career with his stepbrother Ronnell Lawrence Lavatte, also known as Big Gates, and started their independent record label, Big Gates Records. They visited Miami many times to promote their single. As a result, Plies got to sign a deal with slip-n-slide in 2004 and released several mixtapes.
Plies released his debut album in 2007 entitled The Real Testament. His debut singles Shawty and Hypnotized peaked at number 9 and 3 respectively on Billboard Hot Rap Track Chart.
In 2008 Plies released two albums first one was Definition of Real. The lead single was Bust it Baby pt 2 which eventually peaked at number 2 on the Hot 100. The same year Plies third album was released entitled Da REAList which debuted at number 14 on Billboard 200.
In 2010, Plies released his fourth album entitled Goon Affiliated. This album eventually debuted at number 5 on the Billboard 200 and enjoyed more success and popularity with the audience than his prior albums.
Other than these albums Plies released three mix tapes entitled You Need People Like Me, You Need People Like Me pt 2, and No Chaser respectively. His mix tape You Need People Like Me contains a song titled “Boosie” dedicated to the incarcerated rapper Lil Boosie.
From 2011 onward Plies consistently released several mix tapes and singles which enhanced Plies popularity nationally and globally.
His mixtapes include Aristotle, On Trial, Ain’t No Mixtape Bih, Ain’t No Mixtape Bih 2, and Ain’t No Mixtape Bih 3.
He released some singles including ” Just, With You, Please Excuse My Hands, and Racks Up to My Ears.Plies involved himself in some illegal activities for which he was arrested and taken into custody.Several Awards including Best Hip Hop Awards, Ozone Awards, and Grammy Awards have nominated him.
